Liebe zur Landschaft (Love of Landscape)

The B.C. Koekkoek House in Kleve, Germany – just across the border from Arnhem – will present the exhibition Saskia Boelsums – Liebe zur Landschaft from February 8 to June 7, 2026. This unique exhibition brings together contemporary photography and romantic painting. More than 35 monumental landscape photographs by Saskia Boelsums will be on display, both among the works of Barend Cornelis Koekkoek and in separate rooms.
Boelsums' work is strikingly in line with the tradition of the Romantic masters. Like Koekkoek, light, atmosphere, and intense experience of the landscape play a central role, although Boelsums works from direct experience and digital post-processing to capture the moment of wonder.
Saskia Boelsums, who exhibits internationally and was voted Artist of the Year in 2020, works from her home and studio in the countryside of Drenthe. The exhibition shows how her contemporary photography enters into a powerful dialogue with Koekkoek's Romantic painting.
The B.C. Koekkoek House, located in the artist's historic city palace, provides a unique setting for this encounter between two eras.
